Reaching For Family: A New Hope

Reaching For Family: A New Hope

Jedi Mind Tricks

Jenna loved watching spring awaken. Vermont had thrown a lot of winter their way, but most of the snow had melted, and grass shoots were showing through the mud.

On a farm, spring was all about mud. She wondered how many other people owned four pairs of rubber boots. With four, she could rotate through them and the fourth pair was usually dry by the time she got around to them again.

She was living a perfect life. Her dream life.

A life she could have never imagined when she escaped whatever shack they lived in when she was a child. Sleeping in empty buildings and outdoors was much safer than staying in her home when her father had been drinking.

She shook off the shudder and shoved away the memories. Her father was in jail, and would be for years.

Now that Jenna had a safe home, and people who cared about her everywhere she looked, she couldn’t imagine him returning to bother her again.

Noah wouldn’t react well if he saw the man again. Jenna’s husband was a former Ranger, and a protector through and through.

He’d saved her once, and he would have her back. Always.

Jenna waved at Goatzilla on her way by the corral. The ornery old goat was mellowing in her old age. Now that she had Noah back in her life, she’d decided to be a happier girl.

Kind of like Jenna herself.

Jenna cranked over Fred’s engine. “It’s a beautiful spring day, Fred. We’re going to visit with Hilde and Flora this afternoon. You love our fairy godmothers, just like I do.”

The sisters had become a beacon of light and hope for a young Jenna. She’d slept in their barn one night, and the sisters had helped take care of her since. Some people might not believe in magic, but she had evidence of something working working for her. These two women had helped her find a pathway out of despair and helplessness. Magic for sure.

Fred didn’t protest the drive, and she patted his steering wheel as she hopped down. “Thanks, my friend. You enjoy the shade of the maple tree, and I’ll be back in a bit.”

The barn door stood open, so Jenna headed there first.

Hilde, in a glorious peach ballgown, walked through the second hand shop with her feather duster in her hand. One of the black cats sat on top of display, swishing its tail in time to the tune Hilde hummed.

Without prompting, Hilde turned with a smile. “There you are, my Jenna. Midnight said you’d arrived.”

Jeanna reached up to run a hand along the cat’s back before enveloping Hilde in a hug. “You’re radiant in that dress.”

Hilde might not fit in with the general public’s idea of normal, but the woman was an example of the best humanity had to offer.

When Jenna stepped back from the hug, Hilde tilted her head, eyes sparkling. “You have news. Let’s find Flora and you can tell us together.”

Grinning at the woman’s perception, Jenna followed her out of the barn and into the house. It smelled like ginger, making them both smile.

In the kitchen, Flora pulled a tray of gingersnaps from the oven. Today, Flora wore hyacinths from swinging flower earrings to pretty purple flats. She was another beacon of spring and joy.

Flora, mind sharp as any scalpel, turned with a grin. “Right on time. Hilde said you’d be dropping by.”

Jenna hugged Flora. “Right, as always.”

Soon, the three women sat on the porch, sipping lemonade and munching gingersnaps.

“Is that man of yours still rocking your world?” Hilde’s eyes sparkled with fun.

Dspite her flush, Jenna grinned. “He is. Noah’s the most amazing man.”

“And you want to surprise him with something today.”

Jenna held up the bag she’d been hiding from her husband. “I do. I want to tell you my plan and then get dressed here.”

Flora rubbed her hands together. “Sounds wonderful. Let’s get started.”

The Menagerie

Noah had slogged through a lot of muddy fields in his days as an Army Ranger. Today’s mud was as thick as that, but there no landmines, bodies, or enemies lurking in the fields.

Well, the alpaca shit could be considered a kind of landmine, but it was one he could happily live with. Sturdy boots kept his feet dry as he cleared out the lean-tos he’d added around the huge field where his herd roamed.

It was a hell of a sight.

Almost two-dozen alpacas, a llama who watched over his ladies, a Great Pyrenees dog, and a cranky old goat. And a guard goose checking out any visitors.

Today, he’d done the final repairs from the heavy winter. There’d been a few issues on the roof of the new barn, but nothing major. He figured William and Suzanne would approve of spending more initially to get a good product rather than dumping in more money later to repair.

His foster parents had taught him to be frugal, but willing to shell out for quality.

Which had him thinking of buying his own herdsire. Last year, he’d rented out an alpaca stud service, which still sounded weird.

But all of Noah’s alpacas were female, and you didn’t get new alpacas that way. Khan hadn’t been a fan of the male alpaca and the entire process. Did that mean the llama wouldn’t approve of a full-time male? It might be easier to stick with the stud service and deal with a cranky llama for a few days instead of full-time. He needed to do more research.

How would Khan react to the crias once they were born? Janeway, Crusher, and Tilly would all deliver in a few weeks. He doubted Khan would see the babies as a threat. He was a smart animal.

Noah sometimes wondered if he should have aimed higher, but he figured three babies would be enough for this year.

With Jenna at his side, he could take on pretty much anything, but baby alpacas were new, and it made more sense to start small. It would be fun to watch them grow and see how the herd adapted.

Noah walked the fields thinking how much his foster parents would enjoy seeing the animals filling the farm. They’d grown vegetables when he’d arrived into their care. An angry, sad boy who felt like his world had spun completely out of his control.

The couple hadn’t pushed him to be anything other than who he was. They’d guided him with their gentle ways and Star Trek marathons.

They would love that he’d named his alpacas after their favorite shows. The franchise was one that encouraged bravery, diversity, and friendship. The shows had shown Noah the possibilities for the future. And he figured even Gene Roddenberry would approve of the future he and Jenna were carving for themselves.

Although his Jenna was more of a George Lucas fan. Her collection of Star Wars t-shirts almost filled their closet. And he wouldn’t have it any other way.

He wandered the herd, feeling nostalgic and futuristic at the same time. It was a hell of a good life they were building. And he hoped she’d be home soon, so he could show her just how much he loved her.

The Force Awakens

Dragon circled Fred as Jenna drove onto the farm. The Canada goose had been injured one season and had refused to leave after Jenna had healed her up. She was protective and didn’t like strangers much.

Like all the animals, Dragon had learned to love Noah. His gentle, determined nature had won over them all.

Dragon settled on Fred’s hood after she parked, and Jenna chatted with her for a minute before heading out to the fields. At this time of day, Noah would be playing with the alpacas or tending his new vegetable garden, one of the only places on the farm surrounded by grass, not mud. The garden connected Noah to the foster parents who’d changed his life and given him purpose.

And the fresh produce would be great. Neither of them were great cooks, although they both did okay. Salad was her new specialty along with her peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

After rough beginnings, she and Noah had both found peace and hope in this small town of Bloo Moose. Vermont had been good for them both.

Excitement rippled through her as she spotted Noah pushing a wheelbarrow toward the compost pile. He’d been weeding, one of his happy places. She’d never been one to enjoy gardening, but Noah said it was peaceful and hopeful at the same time.

He’d finished stirring the new waste material into the compost when he turned to her with a smile. He always knew when she approached. Probably his Ranger training, but she liked to think he had Jedi senses.

He was her hero after all.

His eyes roved over her, as they always did, making her feel loved and appreciated. She knew it was partially habit to see if any of the animals she’d treated during the day had inflicted any minor wounds. Even when she hadn’t been with animals, he always checked to ensure she was safe and whole.

His eyes rested on her new t-shirt. She’d had her friend Emmy design new ones especially for today. And she wore them all. This top one sported Rey posing with her lightsaber.

“The Force Awakens. Did Hilde design that one for you? Seems like a line she would appreciate.”

Jenna laughed. “No, but she did like it.”

He tilted his head as he studied her collar. “You’re wearing two t-shirts.”

Four, but she didn’t need to tell him that yet. Instead she nodded.

“Why?”

She knew her smile was huge, but the excitement was too big to contain. “Why don’t you find out?”

Noah’s eyebrows winged upwards as he laughed. “Sounds like a fun job to me.”

He moved closer and settled his hands on her waist. His big hands ran softly up and down her sides, and he leaned in to kiss her.

She melted into the kiss, the man was a master.

His hands moved under her shirt and he murmured into the kiss. “More than two shirts. What are you up to?”

She laughed but didn’t comment. He was a smart man, he’d figure it out.

A New Hope

Noah loved seeing this fun side of his Jenna. She’d had a hell of a terrible start to life and hadn’t enjoyed much fun as a kid. He was determined to give her as much joy and fun as he could for the rest of her life.

He didn’t know what she was up to, but he was more than willing to play the game.

He slid his hands beneath the first t-shirt and let his hands drift up to her breasts. She sighed into his kiss as he teased her through the material.

Her body squirmed and leaned into his. The trust she had in him always hit him in the heart. Not many people had given him their full trust. Her belief meant everything.

Noah eased his hands up, lifting the shirt slowly. Jenna lifted her arms willingly, and he leaned back from the kiss enough to slip the shirt above her head.

He didn’t slide it all the way off. Instead, he tangled her hands in it and kissed her some more, making her giggle and then sigh happily. His body was hard as concrete, but he wasn’t going to ruin her game.

Finally he let the shirt drop to the ground and he returned his hands to her waist.

She squirmed under his touch and her smile widened again.

He looked down to find out what this t-shirt said. A New Hope. Another Star Wars title, but from the original trilogy. He might have always loved Star Trek because of William and Suzanne, but he’d become a huge Star Wars fan as well.

He figured Jenna had made this a guessing game. He needed to follow the clues.

“The Force Awakens. A New Hope.”

Jenna nodded, eyes sparkling.

He reeled her back in for another kiss and then played with the hem of the next shirt. “I need more clues.”

He kissed her again, hands working their way between the shirts and up to her breasts. He could play with her beautiful breasts all day, but he needed to keep playing her game.

Whatever it was.

He tangled up her hands again and she leaned into him. The kiss was hot and heavy, very much a prelude to stripping her naked and making love to her right here in grassy area around their garden.

He wouldn’t take any chances with Jenna’s safety or privacy, but he’d have enough warning if anyone showed up.

He hoped like hell no one showed up because whatever game Jenna was playing, it was a lot of fun.

The Force Is Strong

When Noah released her hands and let the second t-shirt drift to the grass, Jenna was so turned on, she figured she might melt into a puddle right here in the garden.

His eyes moved immediately to her shirt. This one showed the Star Trek Next Generation crew and read simply, The Next Generation.

Noah’s brows furrowed for a moment and then she watched hope flare.

She figured he was right, but instead of asking, he kept playing her game.

He reeled her back in for another kiss. She was close to orgasming from his touch on her breasts and his kisses alone. The man was potent. And wonderful.

His hands reached between the final two shirts and his fingers returned to their job of making her lose her mind.

His kiss was full of everything, but she wasn’t surprised when he cut it short.

The next shirt flew off her head and his eyes moved to the final shirt.

Yoda pointed a finger straight ahead. “You are my father.”

Tears misted in Noah’s eyes as he read the shirt. When he looked up, his hands squeezed her waist and his look was full of wonder. “You’re pregnant? We’re going to have a baby?”

Tears of joy streamed down her cheeks. “We are.”

He whooped and lifted her to spin her in a circle until she was laughing and the tears had fled.

Then he set her down and cupped her face with his hands. “You’re amazing. We’re having a baby, Jenna. We’re having a baby.”

Then she was in his arms and spinning again, listening to his joyous, triumphant laugh.

He put her down and kissed her hard. “We’re going to give this baby the best life, Jenna. They’re never going to feel alone or scared. They’ll know we have their back and will always help them.”

She nodded, tears spilling again. “You’re going to be an amazing dad.”

His grin widened. “And you’ll be the best mom. This is one lucky kid.”

“The force will be strong with this one.”

His laugh filled her up until she thought she was going to burst with joy.

The Next Generation

Noah lay on the grass with Jenna snuggled on top of him. They were surrounded by the clothes he’d whipped off them before they’d made wild love beneath the sun and surrounded by the peace of their farm.

He ran his hands up and down her body before resting them on her fabulous ass. “We’re going to have a baby.”

She laughed and lifted her head to sparkle down at him. “We’re going to have a baby.”

He knew they’d both repeated it a dozen times, but it was worth repeating. The most magical sentence in the world.

Noah gently rolled them to the side until Jenna lay on her back on the grass. He kissed her softly and then roamed his hand over her stomach. Obviously, it was still flat and the baby was probably smaller than the baby carrots growing in their garden. “Have you seen Nick yet?”

She shook her head. “No, I figured you’d want to go to the doctor’s appointments with me. I just peed on the stick. Well, four sticks, just to be sure.”

He laughed. “Four sticks? Then it’s got to be real. We’ll get in to see Nick as soon as we can. See what’s it’s safe for you to do. If we need to change anything.”

She grinned. “I’m sure I won’t need to make any changes for a few months yet.”

He kissed her and then leaned down to reverently kiss her belly. Their baby was growing in there. A miracle. “We’re going to make sure of it, Jenna.”

She ran her fingers through her hair. “We are.”

He laid his cheek on her belly and just rested there for a minute, hoping to let the tiny baby know it was loved. Would be loved. Forever.

“We have some big decisions to make.”

Her hand stilled in his hair and he grinned.

“We do?”

He blanked his face and raised his head. “We do. First impressions are so important. What is this baby going to see first? Star Wars or Star Trek?”

Her confusion cleared and she laughed. “Tough decision. Although obviously the answer is Star Wars. We can start with the classic, A New Hope.”

He laughed and kissed her again. “A New Hope it is. I love you so much, Jenna.”

Her eyes misted again. “I love you too, Noah.”

Then they grinned at each other and at the same time they said. “We’re having a baby.”

Raising the next generation was going to be the best adventure yet.
